About

Sai is a member of the Fujiwara family during the Heian period of Japan, when one would add the 'no' (literally has a meaning of 'belonging to', or an 'apostrophe s') onto the last name. Thus, we get the wonderful name of Fujiwara no Sai (Japanese surnames preceed the first names).

Sai is from the Anime Hikaru no Go, and is a talented Go player who's the main character of the show (because Hikaru isn't as important). Go is a board game somewhat similar to chess which originated in China and was then introduced to Korea and Japan, where Sai became THE best player.

Around a thousand years ago, Sai had taught the emperor Go during the Heian Dynasty. There was another person who tutored the emperor Go, who decided to challenge Sai to decide who had the rights to teach the emperor all by himself. During the match, Sai was accused of cheating when in fact the other evil dude had cheated, and Sai ended up losing the game. He was so sad that he drowned himself a few days later. *cries*

But Sai's spirit endured for hundreds of years, and possessed a Go Board. He then met and 'possessed' Honinbo Shusaku, who is in fact the best player of Go in Japanese history. When Shusaku died of a disease at the age of 34, Sai had to return to his Go Board, but he's released by Hikaru one rather stormy night. Sai is only visible to Hikaru (and me, of course), and has endured a thousand years worth of existence just so he can play more Go. Of course, he hooks Hikaru onto the game, and plays a lot of wonderful matches with lots of different people, even if Hikaru becomes mean and doesn't let Sai play sometimes. =(

I love Sai because... He's so very pretty!! *_* And his voice actor, Chiba Susumu, is so very good at portraying Sai's seriousness in games, and the more playful, extremely adorable side of him. He also has an amazing personality, and his dedication to Go is very touching. Sai is just... THE VERY BEST! And if you've seen the Anime or read the manga, I'm sure you agree with me. ^_^

The name of this fanlisting is from my favourite piece of music from the Hikago Anime called Nagori, which means 'traces' or 'remnants' in English. It's just... Such a grandeur piece of Sai music... *_*
