Why Daemon?
When I first read the Black Jewels Trilogy, I was instantly captivated by the beauty and sensuality which was practically oozing from Daemon's character. Being an amazing writer, Anne Bishop captured the many sides of Daemon: the desperately devoted Lover of Witch; the playful innocence of one who finally regained some of his childhood; the confused and shattered mind lost in the Twisted Kingdom; and the fourth side which ruled this Blood triangle - the sleepy, glazed golden eyes and the cold, ruthless anger which defines the Sadist.
I will always remember the one line which made me realise exactly how much Daemon had gotten to me - it was the first time Daemon and Jaenelle actually spent time together, and "his heart thumped crazily as she tugged him up the path, laughing". As I read that, I felt my own heart thumping crazily at how tender the Sadist could become, and I knew I was hooked. And the really beautiful thing, is that everytime I re-read the books (and I would revisit them once every few months), a warm and fuzzy feeling would always stir within me, and I feel myself wrapped in his spell. (I'm pretty sure something similar happens to you too... I mean, Daemon's irresistible! XD)

Here are a few of my favourite lines uttered by Daemon (and of course, they're all property of Anne Bishop).
- "Subtlety is a great weapon. There are other ways to slit a man's throat than to wash the walls with his blood."
- "I can't stand being touched by them anymore. Ever since... I can't stand the feel of them, the smell of them, the taste of them. They've raped everything I am until there's nothing clean left to offer."
- "Darling, if you're going to pretend you're not at home, the least you can do is close the windows. The smell of those nutcakes will draw the most unsavory characters."
- Manny: "Although why you want to stay in the kitchen is beyond me."
Daemon: "The kitchen is where the food is."
- Dorothea: "Would you enjoy being one of the brotherhood of the quill?"
Daemon: "No. I prefer being neat when I piss."
- Daemon: "He's been a little more ambitious when I've ridden him."
Jaenelle: "Ambitious?"
Daemon: "Mm. He's wanted to teach me to fly."
- "My dear Lord Greer, you're talking about half the females living on this clump of rock. Strange aura? Compared to what? High-strung eccentricity is a prepubescent epidemic here. You won't find an aristo family on the whole damn island that doesn't have at least one daughter with a 'strange aura.' What do you expect me to do? Approach each one while her chaperon looks on and ask her if she's screwing a Hayllian from one of the Hundred Families?"
- "Do you think that someone like me, having lived as I've lived, being what I am, would destroy the one person he's been looking for his whole life? Do you think me such a fool I don't recognize what she is, what she'll become? She's magic, Cassandra. A single flower blooming in an endless desert."

Descriptions
Here's a few descriptions of Daemon scattered through the books, and I hope it gives you an overall impression of the kind of person he is. (But of course, reading the books would do a much better job). ^_^
- He's beautiful, bitter, cruel. He has a seducer's smile and a body women want to touch and be caressed by, but he's filled with a cold, unquenchable rage.
- His face was a gift of his mysterious heritage, aristocratic and too beautifully shaped to be called merely handsome. He was tall and broad-shouldered. He kept his body well toned and muscular enough to please. His voice was deep and cultured, with a husky, seductive edge to it that made women go all misty-eyed.
- He had always run to Daemon. Daemon, who always had time to talk and, more important, to listen. Daemon, who patiently read the same book to him, over and over and over, because it was his favorite. Daemon, who plundered the kitchen late at night, even though it was forbidden, to bring Kartane fruit, rolls, cold joins of meat. Daemon, who had been caught one night and beaten for it, but never told anyone the food wasn't for himself.
